Top 5 Editor's Picks

1. Best 144hz Monitor Under $300 Overall

ASUS VG248QE 24" Full HD 1920x1080 144Hz 1ms HDMI Gaming Monitor

August 2017 · ASUS · 27 in · 1920 x 1080 · LCD · HDMI · DisplayPort · DVI · With Speakers · 144 Hz

  • 3D support
  • Sturdy stand
  • Competitively priced
  • TN panel
  • Lacking 2w speakers

Verdict: ASUS VG248QE 24″ Full HD 1920×1080 144Hz 1ms HDMI Gaming Monitor is unquestionably our pick for the best 144hz monitor under $300. If you spent a lot of time researching this (or other) monitors, you’ll have heard about ASUS’s 24″ 144hz monitor. Yes, it’s a TN panel. The problem? Some people complain about TN panels having washed out colors. In our experience? Absolutely not. In fact, it couldn’t be further from the truth. Colors are vibrant, colorful, and it’s genuinely a beautiful monitor to look at. The best part? It has a fantastic viewing angle.

Ideal For

  • Gamers. Need to step your gaming up beyond 60 FPS? This undoubtedly one of your best options.
  • You have a graphics card that only supports 1080p – Most gamers don’t have elite setups to run 1440p and 4k resolutions. In our opinion? That’s completely okay. This is a fantastic option if 1080p is what you can handle.
  • Space that supports 24″ and > monitor size.
  • Potentially want to dabble in 3D gaming in the future.

2. Best 144hz Gaming Monitor Under 300

BenQ ZOWIE 24 inch 144Hz eSports Gaming Monitor, 1080p, 1ms Response Time, Black eQualizer, Height Adjustable (XL2411)

July 2016 · BenQ · 24 in · 1920 x 1080 · LED Backlit · HDMI · VGA · DisplayPort · DVI · 144 Hz

  • Black eQualizer technology
  • Height adjustable stand
  • TN panel
  • Not designed for photoshop powerusers

Verdict: BenQ ZOWIE 24 inch is our best pick under $300 for competitive gamers. Why? A few reasons. For one, BenQ uses a unique Black eQualizer technology that increases brightness and visibility in dark scenes. The best part? It doesn’t overexpose those scenes & wash colors out. Also, BenQ designs their bezels and frame edges to reduce visual distractions. Their LCD frame is constructed in a way to reduce light reflection from the screen. This can be a genuinely big deal for a lot of people. All-in-all this is a fantastic 1080p 144hz monitor that keeps a smooth, fine-tuned smooth & responsive experience.

Ideal For

  • People that play competitive games that need an extra edge.
  • People that want increased visibility in dark game environments.
  • People that want anti-blur options to help with fast-paced games.

3. Best FreeSync 144hz Monitor Under $300

MSI Full HD FreeSync Gaming Monitor 24" Curved non-Glare 1ms LED Wide Screen 1920 x 1080 144Hz Refresh Rate (Optix G24C)

July 2017 · 24 in · 1920 x 1080 · LED Backlit · HDMI · VGA · DisplayPort · DVI · 144 Hz · Gaming

  • AMD FreeSync
  • Curved design
  • VA panel for improved colors
  • No height adjustment
  • Only 1 HDMI input

Verdict: MSI’s Optix G24C is easily our favorite 27″ monitor with 144hz under $300. Why? 2 main reasons. Price is extremely competitive. There’s a handful of 27″ 144hz monitors under $300, and this is one of them. The second is its curved design. To our knowledge, this is the only curved 144hz monitor under $300. That’s a big deal. Curved designs make a questionable difference in improving image quality & viewing angles, but it wins on aesthetics alone. Other things we loved about this monitor is its FreeSync capabilities for our AMD card-having readers, and it’s thin bezel. This is also one of the only 144hz non-TN panel monitors out there. Most other 144hz non-TN panel monitors are 1440p with much higher price tags. Color accuracy is great, and 144hz refresh rates make a huge difference in both gaming, web-browsing, and videos.

Ideal For:

  • People that want a curved monitor. Curved monitors may reduce eyestrain and viewing angles. Curved monitors are interesting designs that a lot of people heavily favor over flat monitors.
  • People that want one of the only non-TN 144hz 1080p monitors out there (especially under $300). Its non-TN (VA) panel design is a fancy way of saying it has improved color accuracy.
  • People that have AMD graphics cards that can take full advantage of FreeSync technology to improve frame rate syncing with your graphics card for less game-stuttering.

4. Best 27" 144hz Monitor Under $300

Acer Gaming 3D Monitor 27” GN276HL bid 1920 x 1080 144Hz Refresh Rate 1ms Response Time (VGA, DVI & HDMI Ports)

April 2016 · Acer · 27 in · 1920 x 1080 · LED Backlit · HDMI · VGA · DVI · 144 Hz · 1080p

  • 3D gaming capable
  • Incredible price-to-value ratio
  • No speakers
  • No height adjusting stand

VerdictAcer Gaming 3D Monitor 27” GN276HL takes our top spot for the best 27″ 144hz monitor under $300 with ease. This is the only 27″ monitor on our list. Why? It’s incredibly hard to find a great 27″ monitor under $300 that offers 144hz capability. It’s large screen & slim profile make a fairly amazing full HD resolution. We love it’s 100 million to 1 contrast ratio – with bright whites and relatively deep blacks. The coolest part of this monitor is NVIDIA’s 3D Lightboost technology. It does 2 things. Provides a 3D experience that’s twice as bright as other options, and it comes with advanced active shutter 3D technology. This is a fancy way of saying it has reduced screen stuttering that 3D monitors tend to experience.

Ideal For

  • People that want a large monitor 3D experience with 144hz capability using NVIDIA’s Lightboost technology.
  • People that want great image responsiveness on a 27″ monitor under $300.
  • People that want a durable monitor with solid build quality.
  • People that have eyestrain. Acer uses FlickerFree technology that does an incredible job reducing eyestrain after longer viewing sessions.

5. Best 144hz Monitor Under $300 With FreeSync

AOC G2460PF 24” Gaming Monitor, FreeSync, FHD (1920x1080), TN Panel, 144Hz, 1ms, Height Adjustable, DisplayPort, HDMI, USB

July 2017 · 24 in · 1920 x 1080 · LED Backlit · HDMI · VGA · DisplayPort · DVI · 144 Hz · Gaming

  • AMD Freesync
  • Great stand & VESA mountable
  • Very low input delay & response time
  • TN panel (not IPS)
  • Bezels aren't super-slim

Verdict: AOC G2460PF 24” Gaming Monitor is easily our top pick for the best value 144hz monitor under $300. AOC has consistently established themselves as a value monitor brand. They take all the specs you expect from a premium monitor & figure out a way to put it in a cheaper package. Unlike other monitors in our top 5 list, AOC’s monitor comes with 5 USB ports (for fast smartphone charging, if needed), flicker-free technology for reducing eye strain, and height & swivel adjustment. This is also one of the best responsive monitors we reviewed. It has 3.66ms input latency and 1ms pixel response time. The short version? Almost no response lag. That’s a big deal for a lot of people – especially on demanding 144hz monitors where every potential image flaw can be exposed.
